Mining & Mine‑site Vehicle Engineering

Make high‑mass road haulage safer and more productive, from pit to plant to port. We apply PBS‑informed simulation and practical mine‑road engineering to validate vehicles, set safe operating envelopes, and de‑risk routes and temporary diversions.

We work with all sizes of clients ranging from Tier 1 miners to single vehicle operators on mine sites.

Designed for operators, mine owners, and OEMs seeking to enhance safety, efficiency, and compliance across their haulage operations. Whether you:

  • Run off‑highway road trains on private haul roads
  • Need evidence‑based controls for speed, payload height, and route geometry
  • Are integrating road‑registered assets or SPVs (e.g. pumps, drill rigs, EWPs) with mine‑site roads
  • Want PBS‑style rigour applied appropriately to controlled mine environments — including site-specific factors like speed limits, lane widths, and managed traffic.

Vehicle performance (PBS‑informed, mine‑context)

Vehicle performance (PBS‑informed, mine‑context)

We assess each combination against the PBS safety suite and mine‑specific adaptations, some of the key quantifiable metrics include:

  • SRT — Static Rollover Threshold (stability baseline and options to lift it)
  • LTR — Load Transfer Ratio (dynamic and transient stability and options to improve)
  • LSSP — Low‑Speed Swept Path, Tail Swing (TS), Frontal Swing (FS) for plant areas, stockpiles, tight bends
  • RA — Rearward Amplification, HSTO — High‑Speed Transient Offtracking, YDC — Yaw Damping to capture various aspects of high-speed on-road performance
  • TASP — Tracking Ability on a Straight Path for required widths on straight sections of roads

Our practice follows PBS principles while considering the specific requirements of private haul roads.

Route geometry & operations test

Route geometry & operations test

Our assessments are confidential and data-driven, identifying potential operational risks that’s as low as reasonably practicable for the mine context.

  • Curve‑by‑curve stability and speed mapping using Load Transfer Ratio (LTR) and SRT context to set allowable speeds by radius and superelevation (laden vs unladen)
  • Lane width & curve‑widening checks with TASP margins (especially on diversions or tight‑turn sequences)
  • Crossfall and superelevation design reasonableness checks; grade/startability/gradeability screening
  • Parking & rest‑bay clearances, batter slopes/shoulders, delineation/signage, and drainage/sight‑distance reviews, with practical mitigations where major earthworks aren’t feasible

WHY CHOOSE US

  • PBS DNA, mine‑ready — we bring national Performance‑Based Standards expertise and adapt it sensibly to private haul roads and managed traffic environments.
  • SRT made practical — we’re across the latest SRT practice and tools (including industry‑validated approaches and communication aids for drivers and supervisors).
  • Actionable outputs — you’ll get turn‑by‑turn speed guidance, clear LSSP/TS implications, and a pathway to lift SRT or tracking performance.

What our clients have to say

  • We started using Advantia in 2014 after being in the PBS space for some time. The difference has been amazing; nobody else ever achieved their level of responsiveness, so they’ve basically taken the pain out of it.

  • We value the availability and responsiveness of Advantia’s entire team. When a customer of ours has a PBS concept in mind, we often call on Advantia for some advice on the likelihood of it being approved, and the level of road access. If it goes through to the Design Approval stage, the service is prompt and the quality is high.

Ian Brownlee, Product Development and Applications Manager

    Barker Trailers

  • When ATE Tankers first entered the PBS market, Advantia was very accommodating in getting us started. They were quick to answer any questions and helped us introduce new PBS products to customers. We now have the confidence to work with customers on their unique PBS designs, knowing that Advantia is just a phone call away.
